The everything peppermint label relies on a lot of inspiration from my mum. Mum is always ringing me to say she has found me some amazing material at the op shop or some books that I could cut up and make bunting with. She talks though ideas with me and lets me know if she thinks a design will or will not work.
Mums favorite piece from everything peppermint is her special Heart Softie that I originally designed for her last Christmas. It sits on her bed and reminds her of the love and friendship that we have.

My mum, Clarita, is my number 1 fan! Always excited to see new products that I’ve come up with and always willing to accompany me on my thrifting adventures.
Her favourite accessory in the Radcat Bandits collection are the glasses links and owns one for her reading glasses and one for her sunnies. Mum loves to show off her links to friends and family overseas via Skype!

My mum, Megan, is without a doubt one of the most important people in my life. She is a source of constant inspiration and support - without her encouragement and help, Blackbird Market would never happen. She puts up with my snapping at her (sorry mum), has great ideas for the stall, helps pack and unpack the car, and has let me take over not 1 but 2 rooms in her house for the market, even though I don’t live there any more.
We both love a lot of the same things, we like to read the paper with a big coffee, we love clogs, we shop online together, we read magazines and when my boyfriend tells me he can see that i’m an exact mix of my mum and my day, I’m proud. I hope to one day be half as kind, beautiful and loving as she is - as anyone whose met her can attest, life is better with her in it and I’m proud to call her mum.
Megan:
New to us is a wonderful selection of unique brooches featuring all things healthy, such a wonderful way to contribute to your seven a day!
The brooches have a delightful sense of fun about them; they add a sense of colour to my outfits and strangers have been known to comment whenever I am wearing them. Much interest too was shown by customers during their debut at April Blackbird. My personal favourite is the peas, closely followed by the egg, I look at them, I wear them, and they make me feel healthy and happy – they surely are organic!

Mum & I love exploring the antique jewellery in the lanes of Melbourne when she visits, closely followed by a visit to the Hopetoun Tea Rooms in Block Arcade.
Mum is wearing one of my Quill necklaces here which was the first design I made, she loves the black & wood look and the imperfections in the handmade beads that makes them so unique….and, also, that it matches her polka dot top :) x
From my collection, for my mum I would choose a one-off art brooch - brooches are a great accessory for winter when your neckline is always covered by scarves and jumpers.
As a mum, I would love my kids to get me some big colourful earrings to brighten my wintery days!

Tell us about your label and the concept behind it?
I’ve always love pin-up’s and everything 50’s and retro inspired. I used to have a clothing label, but moved into underwear as its more of a niche product, and I kind of liked the simplicity of it.I also think there is a real hole in the market, as no-one was making affordable retro inspired underwear.
I was always fascinated by the Bonsai Kitten hoax, in the early noughties. When I originally started Bonsai Kitten, all the underwear were packaged in lil noodle pails. I like the play on the idea of pussy-in-a-box. And also the concept of transforming notions of beauty.
How did you get started?
I was working for a company that had a production house in Bali. I went
over there to find suppliers and a factory. I was very lucky as I stumbled across Adopta Co-op straight away. I’d always wanted to introduce a more humanitarian, socially responsible aspect to fabsion. Working with Adopta (widows from the Bali bombing) has been amazing. I love the idea of women making products for other women.
What challenges have you faced since starting your own label?
There are daily challenges with being self employed. Cashflow is always a big one, but also supply issues, being a one-woman-show, and having to do almost everything can be overwhelming. I also work from a home studio which can be quite isolating in moments…but its all good, I’m looking into outside studio space and Bonsai Kitten is expanding after 2 years of operation into clothing and other accessories. So I’m excited about the next 6 months:)
What can we expect to see from you at Blackbird Market?
I’ll have some fabulous retro inspired gift ideas for Mother’s Day!! Underwear of course! Some select clothing pieces, super fun stockings, showercaps, eyemasks, sleepwear and loungewear for pampering mum/and or yourself, or your special lady.

My mum, Marlene, is one person I can count on to accompany me to markets and be my market buddy (and get me much needed chocolate and hot tea)! Without her support, Way Cuter Than A Button wouldn’t exist.
My mum is always wearing one of her many Way Cuter Than A Button vintage button brooches, and if she’s going to the footy she’ll show off her red & white vintage button ring in support of her favourite team, Sydney Swans (go bombers!).

Lucky for us Radcat Bandits are bring their brand of madness to the 11 May Blackbird Market. It’s the kind of hand crafted accessories that bring up feelings of nostalgia and have you longing to wear a chocker again.
The accessories are fun, unique and a little daring. I wear glasses so i’m personally excited for the glasses chain. This means i’ll like stylish whilst embracing my predisposition to look like a grandma. It also means when I try to cook, they won’t fall into my food - WIN!

EVERYTHING PEPPERMINT
Beautiful handmade goods, made with love and a conscience
everything peppermint! Please bare with me while I wax lyrical, and burst with pride, over how amazing everything peppermint is. Honestly, it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Paper goods that are bright and innovative. Think unique heart softies to make your (or someone you love) heart melt, paper bunting perfect for any occassion or fancying up your kitchen (my place!), handmade cards, canvas artworks all made from recycled materials by one of the best people you’ll ever meet.
Georgia peach spends hours lovingly creating these pieces, stealing pieces from her mum, friends and loved ones to give new life and new love to things we would often discard. I mean, who would think to make bunting out of doily’s with incredible paper backings? Lucky for us, Georgia Peach did!
The thing that I love most about everything peppermint is the care and love that goes into every aspect. From the recycled jars bunting is packaged in, to the reused fabric transformed into pillows, they’re the sort of things that make you feel good just by having them around.
I finally got the brains behind everything peppermint, Georgia Peach (my best pal of a decade) to answer my hard hitting questions. You may also recognise Georgia from her work as the event coordinator extrodinaire at Blackbird Market.
Tell us about your brand and the inspiration behind it?
everything peppermint is all about handmade beauties that are made from recycled materials and its all about creating from objects that I already had. I didn’t want to go out buy more materials, I wanted my label to be environmentally friendly and made from what I had.
What is your background and how did that lead you here today.
I have a background in Fine arts and have always loved producing art. My family is very creative and we always give handmade presents for birthdays and christmas. So a few years ago I made bunting and heart pillows for everyone and it has evolved from there. A love of sewing, creating and always wanting to be doing something is a big help too. I feel like there is something missing if I’m not sewing something or madly knitting!
What do you love most about what you do?
I love Market Day! Its such a nice day to catch up with other stall holders and I love seeing what other artist are creating. Its so nice to see the finished product all set up and people showing interest in your work.
How would you describe your work in 3 words?
